Job Summary:

We are seeking a forward-thinking and highly motivated candidate to take the lead in a fast-paced environment to manage our 11 locations logistic needs in supporting our grain and fertilizer departments. This position is responsible for ensuring that the company and contract drivers are dispatched to pick up agriculture shipments in a timely manner.  The ideal candidate will be dynamic, have the ability to multitask, accurately recall information, carefully plan, problem solve, and adapt to changes. This position will also be responsible for searching out new logistic opportunities as a supplement to the core business needs.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Primary liaison between all departments for transportation needs
  • Dispatch/Coordinate & assign loads and load information with drivers across all company locations
  • Establishes quality transportation services to meet customers' needs, utilizing in-house truck fleet, or outside brokers as appropriate.
  • Establish routes for delivery to include backhauls of product
  • Establish trucking freight rates
  • Cultivate new sales leads to establish new business
  • Take the lead in coordinating/developing/managing all aspects of the proposal process
  • Seek out and establish efficiencies for processes within the department
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators tracking operational performance
  • Ability to execute on strategic initiatives
  • Responsible for rolling out new programs or initiatives impacting the team
  • Proactively identify problems and implement effective solutions
  • Ensure DOT compliance
  • Executes established operational processes and procedures to achieve outstanding results
  • Participate in department or company-wide projects in support of the company goals and objectives

Personnel

  • Communicate headcount needs to trucking supervisor
  • Create a consistent and fair approach for dispatching loads to drivers
  • Settle minor grievances with employees including administering progressive discipline
  • Provide direction and training by communicating company policies, procedures and objectives
  • Provide and document performance reviews to supervised employees a minimum of 2 times per year (January and July)
  • Notify the Assistant General Manager and the General Manager of any personnel issues
  • Coach and motivate employees
  • Employees should be treated as part of the team and positive morale should be encouraged

Accounting

  • Monitor and assist in controlling costs
  • Assist in monitoring, approving, and signing off on accounts payables
  • Establish a multi-year plan for truck and trailer replacement with cost analysis
  • Provide input for fiscal year budgets and make sure the budget is followed throughout the year
  • Coordinate with the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, in developing long and short-range plans for Maplehurst operations

Safety

  • Lead by example and promote a positive safety culture
  • Ensure that all work practices are completed in a safe manner and promote safety amongst customers and employees
  • Meet compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety training policies
  • Enforce safety policies

Miscellaneous

  • Participate in weekly group staff meetings
  • Act in a manner that helps promote a positive image for Maplehurst Farms and contributes to great customer service
  • Perform other needed functions as requested by management

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in transportation, distribution or logistics management (minimum 5 years experience preferred)
  • Experienced in understanding DOT regulations
  • Working knowledge of trucking equipment
  • Knowledge of planning and optimizing truck routes and dispatching processes 
  • Experienced in working with Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel
  • Understanding of Key Performance Indicators within trucking operations
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory, management, and leadership skills
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to make or influence decisions

Minimum Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience supervising team members
  • 5 years'experience in transportation, distribution and/or logistics management
