Job Summary:

We are seeking a self-motivated candidate, who is committed to quality, to manage the grain operations of our 11 facilities.  This position is responsible for managing the safety and the day to day operations of all elevators and grain personnel in an efficient and productive manner. This includes the oversight of grain inventory/handling, grain quality and conditioning, elevator equipment, housekeeping, repairs and maintenance, and the loading and unloading of grain trucks.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Operations

  • Maintain and manage grain quality and quantity for all locations
  • Monitor and control grain discounts and expenses for all locations
  • Monitor grain dryer operations for all locations
  • Coordinate and monitor the daily logistics of grain and products through all of the facilities
  • Provide a weekly facility-specific shipping schedule
  • Conduct physical inspections of grain condition and quality at all locations and sign off on inspection documentation
  • Complete and review monthly facility size ups by the end of the second working day of each month
  • Monitor the blending process of grain for delivery and provide training to grain operators to improve grades, reduce discounts, and eliminate the chance of rejected loads. 

Repair and Maintenance

  • Maintain facility operations including ensuring housekeeping, preventive maintenance and other required paperwork is completed and documented
  • Monitor, schedule, and document equipment preventive maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Maintain company assets
  • Provide input to needed projects and improvements
  • When directed, oversee grain facility upgrades and building projects
  • Review and prioritize repair orders with grain operations staff
  • Provide a yearly maintenance schedule for all locations and document weekly follow up progress

Safety

  • Lead by example and promote a positive safety culture
  • Perform safety toolbox updates on an individual and group basis
  • Ensure that all work practices are completed in a safe manner and promote safety amongst customers and employees
  • Prepare a Job Safety Analysis and submit for approval prior to beginning work on special projects 
  • Provide training and monitor the activities of all outside contractors and visitors
  • Meet compliance with all federal, state, local, and company safety policies
  • Enforce safety policies, including making sure grain staff has a high attendance rate at monthly safety meetings.

Personnel

  • Manage and schedule grain operations personnel for all locations
  • Hire, schedule, and train full time and seasonal labor
  • Notify the Assistant General Manager and General Manager of any personnel issues
  • Provide and document performance reviews to supervised employees a minimum of 2 times per year (January and July)
  • Coach and motivate employees
  • Employees should be treated as part of the team and positive morale should be encouraged
  • Provide a weekly employee labor schedule 

Accounting

  • Assist in controlling facility costs
  • Assist in monitoring, approving and signing off on accounts payables
  • Provide input for fiscal year grain department budget
  • Monitor and control overtime expenses

Miscellaneous

  • Communicate and document progress updates to management weekly
  • Participate in weekly group staff meetings
  • Act in a manner that helps promote a positive image for Maplehurst Farms and contributes to great customer service
  • Perform other needed functions as requested by management

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the grain industry (minimum 5 years experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of grain handling equipment
  • Understanding of grain handling equipment repairs and maintenance 
  • Knowledge of grain quality factors and blending
  • Experienced in working with Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel
  • Understanding of Key Performance Indicators within grain operations
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory, management, and leadership skills
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Ability to make or influence decisions

Minimum Required Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor's degree in an Agriculture related program preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience supervising team members
  • 5 years'experience in elevator operations
